EW Rotary and District 5060 work together to help establish the East Wenatchee Community Futsal Field
The new artificial turf Eastmont Community Futsal Field will be ready for play this fall thanks to a lot of heavy lifting by volunteers along with community support including a $5,000 donation from East Wenatchee Rotary and a matching $5,000 district grant from Rotary District 5060.
A futsal field is a smaller version (40 yards long x 20 yards wide) of a regular soccer field.  The game is played with 5 players per side as compared to 11 players for a normal soccer game.  The game originated in Uruguay in the 1930's and is popular wherever soccer is played.  It is considered an ideal setting for teaching the game to young players but is popular with all age groups,
The idea for this project originated with East Wenatchee Rotarian Alex Cruz, who headed up the organization and fundraising.
The cost of the project was around $140,000 which included $68,000 for artificial turf.  Around half of the total cost was for labor and site preparation, which was donated by community volunteers.  Local businesses, service clubs, individuals and other organizations covered the balance of the cost.  The City of East Wenatchee chipped in $20,000.
The field is located on 3rd Street in East Wenatchee on land owned by the Eastmont Metropolitan Parks District.  The parks district will manage and maintain the field and provide fencing.
We look forward to this facility being a great asset for youth soccer activities in our community and greatly appreciate the support from District 5060.
